Accurate current measurement is evolving from bulky magnetic probes and low-bandwidth transformers to compact, high-precision electronic techniques. This presentation reviews the transition toward shunt and current-viewing resistor (CVR) approaches, highlighting their linearity, scalability, and suitability for modern power electronics and fast-switching devices. We discuss the need for galvanic isolation to ensure safety, break ground loops, and maintain signal integrity in complex systems. Emphasis is placed on minimizing noise through careful layout, amplification, and shielding, as well as extending measurement bandwidth to capture fast transients and high-frequency phenomena.
